Dani began working at Clover Patch and Camp Spectacular in summer 2011. She had previously spent her summers working as a lifeguard at a local pool but knew she had to find a job that was more closely related to the career she wanted at the time. Dani spent her first summer as a camp counselor and loved it right from the start.
She has filled many roles at Clover Patch over the years. Dani has held the positions of camp counselor, life guard, head cook, aquatics director, and assistant director. Former camp director Laura Taylor would joke that the only position Dani hadn’t held at camp was her own. That all changed in Fall 2015 when Dani accepted the position of camp director. Summer 2019 will be Dani’s 9th summer at Clover Patch and 4th as director.
Dani’s favorite camp activity is the “extreme counselor makeover”. The campers get the chance to pick out a costume and paint the face of their counselor. Then the pavilion is re arranged into a runway so the “models” can show off their makeovers.
Dani has a bachelor’s degree in history from Binghamton University. Her original career goal was to become a high school history teacher but everything changed when she accepted a counselor position at Clover Patch. She knew by the end of the first session that working with people with disabilities was something she could see herself doing forever. Clover Patch Camp is a place near and dear to her heart and she feels incredibly lucky to have a career working in her favorite place with her favorite people.
When she’s not at camp Dani likes to spend her time hiking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Travel has always been very important to Dani. Clover Patch Camp hires staff from all over the world and she feels lucky to have been able to visit some of her friends who are former Clover Patch staff. In 2014 she had the opportunity to move to Colombia to teach English. She lived there for 5 months and was hosted by Colombian friends she had met at camp.
